Kids say the darnest things

After being a tuition teacher for about 3 months, I really take my hat off to all in the education sector, especially teachers of young kids. Kids really do ask the most difficult questions that books have no answers for. Haha.. here goes..

Scenario 1: Doing a Cloze Passage where words regarding things found around us have to be filled in.

Sentence: My teacher always tells us to sit upright on our ________.
Answer : Chair
His answer : Body

Me : Body? Are you sure the answer is body?

Him : Orh! No No.. Backside!

Me : . . . No.. We are talking about the things found around us. Not body parts. What is the thing you sit on?

And he finally gives the correct answer.

Scenario 2 : Was fiddling with my phone while he did his work

Him : How do you throw away your photos in your phone? (Showed him quite a few photos that I had)

Me : (Wondering how am I going to answer him, knowing there is a high chance he wont understand) Oh, just delete them from the phone.

Him : Delete? How you delete?

Me : Huh? Err, just delete. Press the button then the photo will be gone.

Him : Orh, the phone delete like this ah? ( Used his hand to show a grabbing action)

Me : When you learn more things as you grow up, you will know then.

Him : Alt Delete ah?

Me : Wah! You learnt how to use the computer and Ctrl-Alt-Del liao ah?? (eager to change the topic!)

And I managed to change the topic to him learning how to use the computer. Whew.

Kids really say the darnest things.
